Net Zero
Since we opened our bright and spacious studios and began our offerings to help you cultivate a peaceful mind and wellbeing, we’ve had our eye on our environmental impact. We make a conscious effort to source local and sustainable eco-products and consumables whenever we can. Think eco-friendly yoga mats, props, cushions, and natural cleaning supplies that skip the harsh chemicals.
We even went the extra mile and built a bike shed with some funding we got to encourage folks to pedal their way to our studios, embracing active travel.
But let’s be real—many of us still roll up in cars, and our studios are cosy thanks to a gas-fired boiler that’s not exactly eco-friendly. It’s a lot to change, but we’re determined to do better than ever when it comes to tackling the climate crisis and reducing our environmental impact.
That’s why we took part in the Step Up to Net Zero programme, thanks to some funding from Glasgow City Council and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. This initiative, led by the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, has helped us step up our game.
As part of the programme, our coordinator Simona has paved the way for us to move towards a more sustainable future.
Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been up to:
- Net Zero Targets: We’ve figured out our carbon footprint for Scope 1 (gas) and Scope 2 (electricity) and set some ambitious targets for reduction. We’re aiming to cut our carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and hit Net Zero by 2045. This means reducing our emissions by 7.1% each year until 2030, which amounts to approximately 159 kg of CO2 each year, and then by 3.3% annually from 2030 to 2045.
- Action Plan: We’ve put together a detailed plan to help us get there. It covers everything from boosting energy efficiency and being more mindful of how we use energy to conserving water and revamping our supply chain. We will also be working on promoting active travel and engaging our community in sustainability initiatives.
- Environmental Policy: We’ve crafted an environmental policy to guide our journey towards Net Zero and ensure we stay on track. View our environmental policy here.
- Lost Item Policy: We’ve established a lost item policy to make it easier for you to find and recover your misplaced belongings. View our lost item policy here.
- Supplier Sustainability: We’ve audited our top three suppliers to check their sustainability practices and set up a checklist for future ones. We’re now prioritizing local suppliers with strong environmental credentials. For example, recently we’ve switched to a more sustainable, unbleached bamboo loo roll with less packaging.
- Cutting Down on Single-Use Items: We’ve phased out some single-use items, like synthetic sponges, and swapped out chalk pens for more sustainable chalk pencils.
- Energy Efficiency: While we can’t install solar panels just yet due to financial constraints, we’re planning to switch to a 100% renewable electricity supplier next year to help reduce our Scope 2 emissions. We’ve also completed an energy audit, installed radiator reflector panels, and are planning to add draught excluders to save energy.
- Swap Shop Event: Our first swap shop event was a success, saving about 160 kg of CO2! We’re already planning more events, so keep an eye out for future dates.
- Looking Ahead: Next on our agenda is calculating our Scope 3 carbon emissions, with a particular focus on emissions from our supply chain and transportation, to gain a more comprehensive understanding of our overall carbon footprint
